that I'm glad I found this tribe. Honestly, I am the only person I know who has been in love with CT for years. Most people poke fun at me for liking them...guess they just dont understand ;) So, yeah...just wanted to express my relief ;)

New Cocteau Twins Box Set - Nov 21st

here's the artwork:
http://www.sweetfoolthemouth.co.uk/images/stuff/cocteaus.jpg

COCTEAU TWINS – Lullabies To Violaine (RELEASE DATE NOV 21 2005)
singles and extended plays 1982 – 1996

For the first time all the non-album tracks from across the Cocteau Twins’
entire career have been compiled together and offer a unique view of their
musical journey from the perspective of all their single / EP releases
which incorporate most of their best known tracks.

CTBOX 2
This is an unusual de-luxe package containing all 4 CD’s that will be
available 21 November (Europe) and 22 November (USA) in a worldwide
limited edition of 10,000. The discs are contained in a fold-out package
made of a material that itself sounds like a Cocteau Twins title –
‘Curious Soft Touch Milk’. It’s all very tactile, minimal and V23.

DAD 2513CD and DAD 2514CD
These are the regular versions of the set which will be available early
2006. Each package is a digipak with 2 CD’s. Volume One covers the 4AD era
(1982 – 1990) and Volume Two the Mercury / Capitol years (1993 – 1996).

The 4AD material was previously available in a 10 x CD box set which had a
CD for each single, though this set features alternative mixes of
‘Pearly-Dewdrops’ Drops’ and ‘Aikea-Guinea’. Volume Two has never been
anthologised and has tracks that were limited as singles as well as the
Christmas tracks ‘Frosty The Snowman’ and ‘Winter Wonderland’.

We (Halou) are releasing a new EP and it features Robin Guthrie!

This EP, entitled the Sawtooth EP will be available on iTunes later this month. It is a prelude to the forthcoming full-length album (yet untitled), which will also feature Robin extensively.

Additionally, both the EP and the album feature cellist Zoe Keating whom you should really check out if you haven't done so yet.

You can hear a few tracks from the EP at myspace:

Thanks for listening,

guthrie-budd performance

i just saw robin guthrie and harold budd perform together last weekend at the decibel festival in seattle
it was divinely dreamy and beautiful sweet and lush and SUPER mellow
at the start of robins solo set he was having technical difficulties and was being so cute about it, he even asked out to the audience if anyone from microsoft was in the house.
then harold budd did a solo set /so beautiful, he even did a little of his poetry
and then they did a set together
and for some reason i was the only person dancing in the whole hall, everyone else sat in their seats, EVERYONE......
that is just so strange to me, i guess it was just too mellow for most folks dancing tastes
but I love super slow medatative dancing
anyhow, i just thought i would report.............

Who are Today's Twins?

As magical as the Twins records are, you can't listen to them all the time. There have been plenty of faux-Cocteaux, but is there anyone out there that is as sublimely transcendant as the Twins in their 4AD prime?

Recommendations appreciated...

Liz And Jeff Buckley, cont.

I don't know if any one has seen this yet, but Liz appears in the BBC doc about Jeff Buckley I mentioned in an earlier thread. It's incredibly difficult and heartbreaking watching her talk, tears in her eyes, obviously shattered but trying to keep her composure. Not always really succeeding. If you love Liz as much as I do, you need to see this. It's amazing how poetic she naturally is, even though she is in deep distress.

Just to drive the knife further into my heart, a fan made an incredible video for Liz and Jeff's heart-stopping duet "All Flowers In Time Bend Towards the Sun" ("I know you say that there's no one for you/ but here is one")

The song is out there on the Web now, do a search and you can several sites with MP3s of it. I think this will put the Coachella controversy to bed once and for all.

Any TVOTR fans???

I've been listening to "return to cookie mountain"
on a loop since it came out.
so much evolution since their debut album 2 years ago....

Maybe it's just me, but I get the same kind of raw, eerie intensity from rtcm as I do from "Head Over Heels"

any one else feel me?

your thoughts???

Hi guys. I'm looking for a specific recording. I have a video cilp of Carolyn's Fingers that's dated 1994-05-13 and is listed as being at the Rome Circus Tent. Does anyone have a good mp3 of this? I've made an mp3 from the video but the quality isn't very good and it's the most amazing live version of this song I've ever heard. She does this really great vocal thing at the end, it almost sounds like an effect but she does it herself, kind of like she's doing the motorboat sound with her lips as she sings. It's hard to explain but it's incredibly beautiful. Thanks guys.

I was wondering if there is anyone else out there who has made love to CT'S music, listened to Cocteau Twins while on psychedelics or MDMA and who has actually cried from how beautiful a song of theirs is (like Lazy Calm, Sea-swallow me, sigh's smell of farewell, etc.). I have had real intense experiences while listening to Cocteau Twins where my heart has been blasted wide open. (I would have to say that CT and MDMA are made for each other).

Sia Furler the new Liz?

I heard a couple songs by Sia on Nip/Tuck and immediately ran to Itunes and downloaded them. I downloaded "Numb" Saturday and have played it exactly 57 times since. I'll listen to it at least 4more times tonight. I downloaded some more of her tracks and a few she did with Zero 7. And then I went on youTube and watched some of her videos. And man- she reminds me a lot of Liz. Kind of not super pretty, kind of shy, but possessing of an incredible range and potent eroticism. The music is very different than the Twins (no Banshees influence) but downbeat and lush like the Twins. She has the ame playfulness and multitracks just like Liz.

So- anyone heard her and get Liz flashbacks?

We are still working out the bugs and would appreciate any feedback you can give us.
I designed the site in photoshop, but my husband Ilia made it work. It was a big learning

CD CONTEST UNFAIR?

I am a little confused about this essay contest. Is it true that members of cocteautwinsforums.com were promised via email "in all unfairness" garaunteed copies of said CDs if they DID NOT enter the contest? That the forum crew/moderators would "donn their black robes" and make this happen? These are the exact words apparently contained in the member's email received from the forum:

"Dear (member)

Universal records are providing some freebie copies of the upcoming remastered editions of both
Four Calendar Café and Milk & Kisses.

We would like it if you turned down the opportunity to win one of these CD's. We feel that contests are a boring way to unload these cocteautreasures. If you do not participate in the contest our moderators will donn there black robes and select you by choice and all unfairness to be one of the recipients to claim one of these freebies. All you have to do is NOT
enter our "Essence" contest.

Regards, cocteautwinsforums.com Team"

The said member questioned this email and was assured by the sssender, apparently MMMENDER herself, that "....that's the email i sent out to all the forum members....but i've also posted this information on 4ad, livejournal, tribe and myspace." Said member again questioned the sssender and the reply was "positive, it's the exact email i sent out. you'll notice it's addressed to your forum username, it was sent through the forum control panel i assure you."

I’ve seen it all already
I’ve been it all already
All cascades before me
All cascades… no more me
Every facet, every flaw,
Every reflection, I ever saw

At the hollowest of centers
Ever quiet, ever still
Feel the whirlwind blowing
From the windowsill
Density expands,
Material contracts,
As my Minding wanders
The construct of the facts
Recorded through my Castle
A castle formed of clouds
Shifting in a storm front
Of undulating shrouds
Brilliant light and color
Afire on the air
Details more than clever
Exploding everywhere
Details less than stable
Collapsing as they wear

Is it Heaven or Hell?
The Realm in which we Dwell…
The answer may be, “Well,
It depends on the Swell”
For Riding a Wave
Is a High that will Save
But to Crash on the Sand
Is the fate of the Damned
The world is what we make
And so to turn the wake
We must rise above the tide
And form our Falls in stride
Dancing with the Rhythm
Of our Soular Cataclysm

Travel this way to the Core
Leave behind the phantom Shore
We do not need it anymore
No time to glide on Winds of Yore
Let’s Fly beyond the Revolving Door

The Cocteau's are a wonderful band surely we should be ranting and raving in here. Do you think Liz will ever do a solo album? I'm trying to get you all talking again... please....

My essay for Dreck on the Twins

So for the second issue of my "megazine" Dreck, which will come out in mid-March, I want to do an appreciation spread on the Twins, and here's the essay I wrote for it. If anyone else would like to contribute please message me. I've already gotten a couple other little pieces from others to include. Any feedback/comments are appreciated on my essay, as well. I love hearing how other people first discovered this band and what their music has meant in other peoples' lives.

________________________________________

WHEN I DIE, TAKE ME TO VICTORIALAND

by anthony lockwood

When I was nineteen years old, sharing an apartment with a friend in downtown Portland, Oregon, I was browsing one day in a record store called Route 66 (long since gone) when I happened upon an album that caught my eye. It had very pretty, blurred cover artwork, and the song titles on the back looked like fragments of psychedelic poetry. It was Head Over Heels by the Cocteau Twins. So potent was that initial impression that I bought the album on the spot, sound unheard, curious to know what musical substance lay behind that ethereal façade.

I was not disappointed. By pure chance I had stumbled upon this group whose music is best when stumbled upon - by pure chance. Everything about them was of a piece. The Cocteau Twins – whoever they were – refused to give themselves away. There were no liner notes, no band photos, even the lyrics of the songs were as clouded and abstract as the album cover designed by 23 Envelope which had first ensnared me. The woman’s voice (or womens’ voices? “Robin Guthrie” could be male or female) was bewitching and here and there a recognizable phrase oozed out, like a clear circle rubbed in a frosty car window in winter; but even then it was the same abstract psychedelia that composed the song titles: “When mama was moth,” “Sugar Hiccup,” “Glass candle grenades,” “In our angelhood.” I yearned for a lyric sheet, some concrete anchor to facilitate my absorption of their arcane imagery, but there was none to be had. I was left to form my own idea of the meaning of this band’s songs – or, perhaps more accurately (particularly in the early years), their musical atmospheres.

Looking at the pull-out in the CD case I saw that the album had originally been released in 1983. It had come out when myself and everyone I knew were listening to Culture Club and Cyndi Lauper and Michael Jackson. Why had I never heard of this band before? And yet, despite my never having heard of them, here was a new copy of this album, and new copies of many other releases of theirs, twenty years later. Obviously, there were some well-kept secrets no one had let me in on.

I had stumbled upon an invisible phenomenon.

But that was only the beginning of this musical love affair. Shortly afterwards, returning to the same record store for further research, I picked up Heaven or Las Vegas, again because of its song titles, which possessed a dreamlike solidarity, but this time even more phrase-like and mysterious than with my first acquisition: from the first track “Cherry-coloured funk” to the magnificently-titled “Frou-frou foxes in midsummer fires.”

At the counter, a guy talking with the cashier noticed my selection and asked me if I’d heard HoLV before. I said no and he said, “Oh, it’s good. You should check out This Mortal Coil too, if you haven’t yet. They’re another great 4AD band you would like, if you dig the Twins.”

When I got the album home, at first only the flashy single “Iceblink Luck” stood out, gloriously voiced and unstoppably catchy as it was. But shortly after purchasing HoLV I got sick and spent about a week mostly just lounging around the apartment, not working, just smoking my way through a big bag of pot, reading and listening to music. In the course of those leisurely days I found myself listening to HoLV again and again, and as I did so the glittering single slowly receded and the rest of the album gradually rose to the surface, like what happens when you lay in bed staring up at the plaster pattern on the ceiling and suddenly your vision reverses and everything that looked like an indentation before turns into a protrusion, and vice versa. (Does anyone know what I’m talking about here?) I think maybe that was the moment I first stepped through the mirror and fully entered their world.

Soon after, hungry for more, I picked up a tape of Treasure, the 1984 follow-up to Head Over Heels, and one of their best-known and most critically-lauded releases (this is the album that had one starry-eyed British reviewer comparing the music of the Cocteau Twins to “the Voice of God”). By this time I was fully enchanted. “Lorelei” gave me mental images of angels ice-skating in slow-motion and making out beneath the Northern Lights. “Persephone” was a sorceress calling down a storm to avenge herself against her enemies or an errant lover. “Pandora” was like laying on a cloud with glowing feathers drifting down around changing colors as they fell, in a state of the purest and most ecstatic peace.

It was some of the loveliest, most ineffable music I’d ever heard. Without saying anything, they said more than anyone.

From there it was only a matter of time until I collected the entire oeuvre: the other LPs: the transcendent tranquility of Victorialand; the densely-layered lullabies of Blue Bell Knoll; and the flawless collection The Pink Opaque which brought together all the highlights of their prolific early years. Eventually I hunted down the harder-to-find (and pricey) treasures as well: The Moon and the Melodies (their collaboration with ambient pianist Harold Budd) and the maroon boxed set of their many singles and EPs. The boxed set was the perfect document of their evolution from the somewhat derivative and goth-sounding earliest EP Lullabies through the somewhat jagged experimentalism of Tiny Dynamine and Echoes in a Shallow Bay to the soothing splendor of Love’s Easy Tears and the Iceblink Luck single. Here was a band that tried something new every time while managing to always sound like themselves. Their music was a portal to another world, and for several years I preferred it to the real one.

I used to say all their stuff was magic up until the last two albums – Four-Calendar Café and Milk and Kisses, which were pretty but ephemeral. But one night in Olympia during my Evergreen College days a bunch of us had a party where we played Four-Calendar Café at neighbor-annoying volume from beginning to end and had group hug-ins and tripped out to the multiple aural orgasms of their music. I’ve had a whole new respect for Four-Calendar Café since that night. The song “Summerhead” must be one of their finest.

Every fan of the Twins has their opinions and favorites. For me there are a number of songs that stand out as gems of unreal quality, including “The Spangle-Maker” (the processed guitar feedback that sounds like the sounds made by whales deep in the ocean), “Five Ten Fiftyfold,” “The Itchy Glowbo Blow,” “Carolyn’s Fingers,” “I Wear Your Ring,” “Frou-frou Foxes in Midsummer Fires,” the entire first side of Treasure and the song “Amelia,” “Rococo,” “Sea, Swallow Me,” “The Ghost Has No Home,” “Sigh’s Smell of Farewellk,” and many others. Perhaps if I had to pick one song that I thought was absolute perfection though, it would have to be “Aikea-Guinea.” I read that aikea-guinea stands for “seashell” in some Scottish dialect, and that’s so perfect, because that’s exactly what the song is. With its simple, organic rhythm and the concentric spirals of its thrice-repeated chorus - which sounds to me like Liz simply singing the word “free” stretched out to countless syllables – this song is something organic and mind-blowingly beautiful, like a seashell. It ends so perfectly, at exactly the right moment, leaving you stunned and wondering how anything human could have made something so purely perfect.

The spell of the Cocteau Twins’ music never really broke, it just kind of faded in intensity, but it’s still there. Discovering their music was like falling in love for the first time, and that’s not something you ever forget.

I went to the lyrics pages on the Twins Site, and printed them out, after reading through them, it becomes so clear to me" Why it would be so utterly painful, to resound; Relive the isolataed self loathing, place those words came from, I' need to be clear here I'm not speaking out of my ass, I, and my sisters are survivors of many shame filed yrs of sex abuse, maybe, I dont know"a bit more" for me as a male, who as a boy could do nothin to stop" the abuse, angainst my Sisters by, my own Father, I seeked my School Counsolers, and they did nothin, it was the early seventies, it was the times. In the past on other boards I have made bad choices to explain my connection to what the Coteau twins music. brought out of me, It further blew my mind to discover Elizabeth and I, share the same birthday August 29th, oh ya and that other dude M. Jackson, any ways, reading the translated phrases, with theyer repetitive stanza's about sex in a car steppin on the gas, I think thats the pretty "Otterly", tune on "treasure", it seems to me that Elizabeth, was searching for any vehical, to emancipate, her wounded little soul, from the prison of depending on perpatrators, in any form" consious of being so' or not, For me Hearing Four Calendar Cafe in my Parents Mobile home, at Christmas " excuse me, for not knowing the exact yr' of the fontana Release, watching Snow fall against the panned glass, of the new England countryside, " I heard, in Liz's voice' my own Sister pretending, a magickal reality, of how everybodys a happy family, and Dads gonna teach me drivin, and I'm movin out west" when I turn 19, but we" meaning Myself and our little family, will always be close, Knowing that I would'nt sleep at all that night, watching guard over our' two rooms, in fear that my Dad would try to get to my Sister, You see the lesson is that all the searching and hoping to resolve and heal the scars, Can lead you back to the wolfs jaws, though they might be aged and weak, the still tear the pysche, I've ordered the Violane ReRelease, as an ode to the Works, but I really can't believe We will ever hear the same kind of sounds created, by a young girl seeking safety, and peace.

Does anyone have a link to a funny Cocteau Twins interview, or the interview itself to paste here? You know what I mean, one of the interviews they gave in the late 80s or early 90s where they were just sort being elusive and making fun of the seriousness with which their work was regarded (the "Voice of God" quote from the Treasure era). I recall Robin Guthrie in particular smashing the image of ethereal eccentrics to smithereens by being kind of boorish and down to earth and no-bullshit. I'd like to send a friend one of those interviews, I think he'd get a kick out of it.

Why Liz stopped singing....

A lot of people were shocked and disappointed that Liz bailed out of the Cocteau Twins appearance at the Coachella festival. I'm not, in fact I was shocked that she agreed to do it in the first place. The Cocteau Twins have always been an enormously private band, but I've done a bit of investigating and I think I know why our goddess is silent.

This is from the Cocteau Twins website, concerning the dedication to the final Cocteau Twins album Milk and Kisses:

Dedication reads: "Milk and kisses for the first man / my old man / love and a thousandfold rose for Buckley / my Rilkean Hearted friend" (From Elizabeth; 'Buckley' is a reference to Jeff Buckley.)

It was rumored that Liz fell in love with an unspecified individual on the Four Calendar Cafe tour. And then she was linked with Jeff Buckley in the press. Liz didn't respond, but Buckley told the press that they were just friends. This most likely was to protect Liz's privacy. Anyone who has seen Liz onstage knows what a fragile flower she is. But something got into her for the making of Milk and Kisses. After the subdued and whispery vocals of Cafe, Liz's singing on Milk was full-throated, expansive and extremely sensual. One of her most amazing vocal performances ever was on the sublime "Seekers Who Are Lovers" track. All the tracks on Kisses were extremely erotic, a quality that Twins music was not generally known for. Couple that with the "love and a thousandfold rose for Buckley" dedication, and it doesn't take a brain surgeon to figure out the nature of their relationship.

A listen to Buckley's records reveals a startling affinity with Liz. It's highly likely he discovered her following her landmark cover of his father's Song to the Siren on the first This Mortal Coil album. A casual listener could spot the influence Liz had on his singing. And couple with Liz' exotic, otherworldly beauty, it must have been a match made in heaven.

The Twins were an extremely dysfunctional band. Both Robin Guthrie and Simon Raymonde have confessed to severe drug problems and Liz and Robin's breakup was by her admission, damaging to all involved. But Jeff Buckley must have seemed like an angel sent from heaven. Given the fact that both of them were extremely busy with their careers, its hard to say how much contact they had with one another on a regular basis. But if you listen to Milk and Kisses in light of Liz's relationship with Buckley, one can imagine how ecstatic their union was.

Besides the fact that Liz was not your basic "Type A" career-slut like Madonna or Gwen Stefani, and that there was a great deal of turmoil in the band, there is also the fact that Liz had damaged her vocal cords and was in therapy after Four Calendar Cafe to re-learn to sing. And to make matters worse, she is also the survivor of childhood sex abuse, a fact she very bravely discussed in interviews in the early 90's. Then as she was starting to come out of her shell and reclaim her life as a great artist and sexual being, Jeff Buckley drowned in the Mississippi River in May of 1997. Shortly afterwards, Liz Fraser walked out of recording sessions for a new Cocteau Twins album, never to return. Again, do the math.

The Gnostics believed that the World was an abortion. They believed that this realm of creation was corrupt and fallen and that human beings were spirit beings imprisoned in the world of matter. When I contemplate the suffering that someone who has brought such immaculate, phosphorescent beauty into the world, I am increasingly inclined to agree. The list of careerist cows who ransacked Liz's beautiful art and took in to the bank is endless. The Cocteau Twins never received the acclaim they deserved. And Liz has suffered so much in her life. The more recent photos I've seen of her are heartbreaking. It's like the light of the world has gone out.

Anyway, I know a lot of people were greatly disappointed by the Twins' Coachella cancellation. But in context, perhaps you can realize that your disappointment is extremely trivial in comparison.

I have a bootleg recording on a tape I bought way back in 1986 which is a live recording of the cocteau twins in London in 1984. There is an instrumental track on the recording which is absolutely brilliant, however the recording is very bad, but It is still clear at the same time.

This recording does not feature on any EP, Album, or vinyl, or compilation.

Can any one help to let me know what this could be. Boggled me for years.

PS. It is not Rococo!

While I am hear, has any one ever heard the Cover of Strange Fruit (Nina Simone, Billie Holliday, Siouxsie) the Cocteaux made around 1982/3
It came on the unreleasied dreams bootleg picture disc. It's totally wonderful.

http://www.broaddaylight.cc/lumiere/lumiere.htm

heres the show info,
hope to see all of you there,
email me at jamesalleneakins@hotmail.com
with any questions
cheers

Robin Guthrie "Lumiere" November 20, 2005

I am proud to announce that Robin Guthrie will be performing Lumiere at the Wilshire Grand Hotel in downtown Los Angeles on November 20th 2005. This event will be hosted in the Wilshire's beautiful Pacific Ballroom, this evening promises to be an unforgettable night, hope to see everyone there.

Lumiere is an hour long animated film created as a backdrop to a sublime
collection of sensual and atmospheric, guitar only, instrumentals of truly
hypnotic beauty performed live by Robin Guthrie.

As the founder member of the seminal Cocteau Twins, Robin Guthrie has
created some of the most beautiful music of recent times and is widely
regarded as a musical visionary. The distinctive sonic landscapes that have
become his trademark are again on display throughout the Lumiere performance
and at time, touches upon his instrumental debut Imperial, his soundtrack to
Gregg Araki's award winning Mysterious Skin, released earlier this year, as
well as introducing exclusive new material from his delightful forthcoming
LP Continental. Needless to say, his many admirers will find much here that
they recognize and love.

Yet what marks this performance out from his recorded work is the
spaciousness of the music. Robin employs an astonishingly down-tempo pace
throughout to mesmerizing effect. This is music to drift away to... music
within which you can lose yourself...

Lumiere has been lovingly assembled with the same craft and techniques which
Robin has used in the sonic world for years, an interweaving and layering of
images, creating distinct moods which are reflected by the music being
played - "improvised within the framework; dictated by the visuals", relying
on layers of treated guitars, textures and sumptuously cyclic melodies.

opening for robin will be LA's broaddayli

The First Time........I listened to, or saw the Cocteau twins was in a UK punk magazine called Noise I bought in 1982. Liz had wobbly dreadlike looking and matted hair and had lots of pimples. She was 19.
*I have a live video of theirs from 1982 performing HAZEL and she looks the same as the pic). She beats her chest with her winged-arm a does a bend-over beat-the-floor moves to the crazy beats. They were supporting Killing Joke.

The First Time..... I heard the cocteau twins was in 1984 when a live video for Spangle Maker and Pearly Dew Drops came on an alternative late night music show on tv, in Australia.

The first record I bought of theirs was Head Over heals in 1984 when I fell deeply in love with the artwork. I had no idea who they really where and bought it on the merits of the artwork. When the needle hit the record that same day, my world changed immediatley. Since that day, they have remained the singular most important band in my life.

And you?

CT Nissan Commercial?

This is probably a really stupid question, but a Nissan SUV commercial has as its background music that sounds (to me) very CT-like. I've mentioned this to one my CT-listening buddies, and he agrees.

Any comments?

Also contributing vocals is Stuart Staples (Tindersticks) and Jane Birkin. I'd post the webpage link, but I'm feeling lazy and I still have a dial-up account, so forgive me for being technologically retarded. I think you can probably find copies on CDBaby, http://www.cdbaby.com for those of you who really need it.

It's pretty much a given that the majority of music sounds better at a high volume, but I definitely (at least in my case) think this applies to Cocteau Twins. The intensity seems to really come out, don't you think?

Today I blasted "Persephone" at an excessivly high volume, and good God, it blew me away.

Mysterious Skin: score by Robin Guthrie

The new Mysterious Skin opens in NYC on May 6th, and it begins in other US cities at the end of June and in London on May 20th. The film has an opening credits sequence to the music of Slowdive's "Golden Hair," and also contains music by Ride, Curve, Sigur Ros, and Cocteau Twins ("Crushed").

But most important is the score to the film, which was done by Robin Guthrie and Harold Budd. The music is beautiful, reminiscent of Moon and the Melodies, and a gigantic part of the movie. The soundtrack will be available on Commotion Records on May 20th.

The film is directed by Gregg Araki (Nowhere, The Doom Generation, the Living End, Splendor). Admittedly, I'm sort of tooting my own horn here, too, since it was adapted from my novel... but, unlike so many writers whose books are turned into films, I honestly love this movie!! I hope you do, too... but whether you do or not, I promise you'll be interested in Robin and Harold's music.

Are there any good Twins boots out there, preferably in the '83-'90 range, preferably soundboard? I only have the Live in London CD and it is pure, radiant godhead, despite the audience recording. Liz' vocals are fetus-position inducing. But damn it, I need more!

NEW Ethereal stream on LIVE 365 (featuring CTs)

Greetings fellow CT-heads.

I wanted to turn you all on to a Live 365 stream that I've started - it's been on the air for a month now, and has been getting a LOT of listens from all over the globe.
I'm constantly adjusting the music mix - but it's basically a mix of melodic IDM (think Ulrich Schnauss, Boards of Canada, Aspen, Arovane, etc), chilled dub/downtempo (like King of Woolworths, Kruder & Dorfmeister, Fila Brazillia, Thievery Corporation), ambient (like Biosphere, Pete Namlook, Deep Space Network, Higher Intelligence Agency), post-rock (Sigur Ros, Piano Magic, Yo La Tengo, Beta Band), low-fi (Lali Puna, Kreidler, M83, Múm), shoegazer (Cocteau Twins, Slowdive, My Bloody Valentine, Mogwai, etc) and global groove (Up Bustle & Out, Talvin Singh, Jazzanova, Alien Soap Opera, etc).
Cocteaus have the most tracks of any artist in the stream - so that's why I'm posting in here... if your musical tastes run the same as mine, I promise you'll love it.
Sometimes I've been broadcasting the stream live from my computer (and a few times directly off my dj-cd decks into my computer) and sometimes it's broadcasting from the playlist I have stored at Live 365. The stream is very high-quality (sorry modem users!) so I can't store that much there. I have only 48 hours worth of tracks stored - that's more than most stations, but when your music library contains 4000 cds, it's pretty tiny. So I prefer to broadcast live if I'm not using my computer for something else - I'll be doing that on Halloween night (next Sunday the 31st) from 5pm-11pm PST, playing a 6-hour scary set of dark ambient and assorted glops of musical nastiness.

Anyway... if any of you broadband folks feel like giving a listen, here's the link:
www.live365.com/stations/gregretro?play

The station name is 'abcdefg(a2g)', which both stands for "Ambient Breaks/Chilled Dub/Ethereal Funked Guitars", and stands for myself (greg) and my musical collaborator (amy - another devoted CT fanatic) who will be programming her own shows when I get my broadcast server built. We'll also be broadcasting some live improvised ambient/abstract perfromances when we have some time.

If any of you musicians out there have HIGH quality mp3s of your stuff (and by high quality, I mean 64Kbit true stereo - MP3 pro - MINIMUM) drop me a line via my profile and I'll give you more info.

Thanks....

greg rose

If you love the twins (and who doesn't?) pick up one or both of Ulrich Shnauss' CD's. He writes in a very, very similar style. No vocals, though. I'm kind of surprised no one else is talking about it.

Is anyone here familiar with Faye Wong? She is a great Chinese artist and she did some twins covers. She also was on the Asian press of the Milk and Kisses cd singing on the Serpenskirt track.

Does anyone know where I could buy this cd online or near San Francisco? thanks

btw Faye Wong has some really great work that i think twins fans would love...check out the Fable and Di-Dar album.

How did anyone hear of , get into the coteau twins and what was the first song they ever listened too by them?
My friend Niki in Cali snailed mailed me the treasure cd years ago. We were both always into unique sounding music especially with female vocals. The first I ever heard was Ivo followed by the rest of the album. However I heard Amelia on wfmu local station in the earlyyy am and fell in love with it never knowing who it was before I ever got that cd. Im glad I did :D

ok now I have had people ask me before what cocteau twins would be considered. Now I do not know if there actually is something they are under. But I couldn't explain , I think I thought of a million words , Melodic , sometimes etheral , dreampopish , scottish , euro rock?
I have no idea how to answer them. Is there actualy something? and what title would you put them under if you had to besides just " Cocteau Twins."
