The new Mysterious Skin opens in NYC on May 6th, and it begins in other US cities at the end of June and in London on May 20th. The film has an opening credits sequence to the music of Slowdive's "Golden Hair," and also contains music by Ride, Curve, Sigur Ros, and Cocteau Twins ("Crushed").
But most important is the score to the film, which was done by Robin Guthrie and Harold Budd. The music is beautiful, reminiscent of Moon and the Melodies, and a gigantic part of the movie. The soundtrack will be available on Commotion Records on May 20th.
The film is directed by Gregg Araki (Nowhere, The Doom Generation, the Living End, Splendor). Admittedly, I'm sort of tooting my own horn here, too, since it was adapted from my novel... but, unlike so many writers whose books are turned into films, I honestly love this movie!! I hope you do, too... but whether you do or not, I promise you'll be interested in Robin and Harold's music.

Re: Mysterious Skin: score by Robin Guthrie
Wed, May 4, 2005 - 6:42 AMI also loved the book--the prose had the same dreamy, desultory quality of the Twins music.
Congratulations on both getting Robin Guthrie AND Gregg Araki!
