The First Time........I listened to, or saw the Cocteau twins was in a UK punk magazine called Noise I bought in 1982. Liz had wobbly dreadlike looking and matted hair and had lots of pimples. She was 19.
*I have a live video of theirs from 1982 performing HAZEL and she looks the same as the pic). She beats her chest with her winged-arm a does a bend-over beat-the-floor moves to the crazy beats. They were supporting Killing Joke.
The First Time..... I heard the cocteau twins was in 1984 when a live video for Spangle Maker and Pearly Dew Drops came on an alternative late night music show on tv, in Australia.
The first record I bought of theirs was Head Over heals in 1984 when I fell deeply in love with the artwork. I had no idea who they really where and bought it on the merits of the artwork. When the needle hit the record that same day, my world changed immediatley. Since that day, they have remained the singular most important band in my life.
And you?

Re: The First Time.......
Sat, October 1, 2005 - 7:49 PMI had "Dear Heart" on a cassette that I recorded from recorded from a late night alternative radio show in Seattle in I want to say 1984?, played the hell out of it on my head phones while riding the bus, (it so seemed to fit my mood, and still does) but it's the only song I no longer have a recording of. but had no idea who it was for months. Then I made a friend at the radio station and discovered the cocteau twins, devoured everything they had since then. Most of my stuff is still on vinyl, have the early ep's etc, the videos on latenight MTV (along with all the other alternative stuff like skinny puppy, the wolfgang press, and so many others). Only saw them once in Seattle in '94 at the Paramount Theatre, when I lived in the apartments above the theatre, it was good, but they are a band best left to my imagination, than live. (though I would go see them live if given the chance again - damn cochella) -

Re: The First Time.......
Sun, October 2, 2005 - 1:17 AMIn 1986 my friend gave me a tape with Cocteau Twins and The Art of Noise - both of which I'd not heard before. She had mislabled the tape, so I confused the two. I think the album was victorialand and bluebell knoll - I don't remember exactly. Strangely, I didn't really like it, but I didn't have a lot of tapes, so I listened to it anyway while doing my homework in my tiny dorm room. I think it was after a couple weeks that my cocteau twins cravings began. Since then I think I have maybe 95% of their songs on CD - the only band I can say that for. Around 1996 there was a website where if you asked a question and it was deemed worth answering, someone from the band would answer you. And I was fortunate enough to have my question answered. But I never wrote back to answer their return polite question because I realized I wanted them to remain etherial.
