Re: Names on Treasure ?
Sat, December 3, 2005 - 7:43 PMSome are from mythology, like Pandora (as in pandoras box),
Persephone is queen of hades, daughter or Demeter... She was kidnapped by Hades and brought to the underworld.
I believe Lorelei is a singing spirit, like a siren that leads sailors to their demise with their song.
Not sure if this is how their meant to be interpreted on the album though, and I'm not sure about the rest.... -

Re: Names on Treasure ?
Mon, December 5, 2005 - 9:55 AMFrom what I've read, Liz chose the mythological names purely for how they sounded. I read an old NME interview with Guthrie in which he said that people misinterpreted the choice of song names as indicating that the band was into "all that pre-Raphaelites rubbish (or bollocks, I forget)." -

Re: Names on Treasure ?
Tue, December 6, 2005 - 10:04 PMThat's what I've read as well... good to stay informed on mythology anyway, even if Fraser thinks it's 'bollocks'

Re: Names on Treasure ?
Wed, December 7, 2005 - 12:34 AMthe name pandora (for cindy) was picked specifically for gordon sharp of the band cindytalk. gordon introduced liz fraser to the works of louise brooks....in particular her film called Pandora. so she dedicated the song pandora to gordon, that's why it has for cindy (talk) in brackets. -

Re: Names on Treasure ?
Wed, December 7, 2005 - 1:01 PMWow, I didn't know that.
Oddly enough, Cindytalk are one of my favourite bands. -

Re: Names on Treasure ?
Tue, December 13, 2005 - 7:32 PMWhich Cindytalk?
I've enjoyed his contributions to TMC "it'll end in tears"
and of course to "Peppermint Pig EP"
but I'm not too thrilled with the band in general.
I've tried to get into "wappinschaw" w/o much success...
is there another album that would be more accessible?

Re: Names on Treasure ?
Thu, May 11, 2006 - 3:44 AMThis probably isn't really relevant but I seem to remember reading an acticle / interview in the NME around the time of Treasure's release stating that Liz had found the names for the tracks walking past down some street in London. Apparently embedded in stained glass above the doors to a row of houses. Ivo, as you say is an obvious one ands a pretty weird name for a house anyway! As with most Cocteau's lyric's / titles they become less mysterious the more research you do. Took me ages to figure out that all the lyrics to Melonella were breeds of butterfly. -

Re: Names on Treasure ?
Sat, June 3, 2006 - 9:51 PMI always thought most of the names were very old school, upper crust British names. Otterly, Aloysius, etc.
