COCTEAU TWINS – Lullabies To Violaine (RELEASE DATE NOV 21 2005)
singles and extended plays 1982 – 1996
For the first time all the non-album tracks from across the Cocteau Twins’
entire career have been compiled together and offer a unique view of their
musical journey from the perspective of all their single / EP releases
which incorporate most of their best known tracks.
CTBOX 2
This is an unusual de-luxe package containing all 4 CD’s that will be
available 21 November (Europe) and 22 November (USA) in a worldwide
limited edition of 10,000. The discs are contained in a fold-out package
made of a material that itself sounds like a Cocteau Twins title –
‘Curious Soft Touch Milk’. It’s all very tactile, minimal and V23.
DAD 2513CD and DAD 2514CD
These are the regular versions of the set which will be available early
2006. Each package is a digipak with 2 CD’s. Volume One covers the 4AD era
(1982 – 1990) and Volume Two the Mercury / Capitol years (1993 – 1996).
The 4AD material was previously available in a 10 x CD box set which had a
CD for each single, though this set features alternative mixes of
‘Pearly-Dewdrops’ Drops’ and ‘Aikea-Guinea’. Volume Two has never been
anthologised and has tracks that were limited as singles as well as the
Christmas tracks ‘Frosty The Snowman’ and ‘Winter Wonderland’.

God Bless 4AD. This is damn convienient.
so wait,
I already have all their EP's/LP's on disk (excluding post 4ad stuff)
is this still something I need to have?
That fold out packaging sounds kinda neat,
will it be worth the bucks, though?
j
I have the original Box set and all the Single Cds so I doubt this will make me fork out some fresh green paper for it. If there was some new song perhaps so, but this is just another money spinner for 4AD, just in time for xmas. Anyone wanna buy me a xmas pressie?
seriously,
I wanna know what the selling point is...
are they at least re-mastered issues?
Is there new original artwork?
what's the deal?
everything on it has been remastered by robin guthrie. plus you're getting new packaging. if you check out cocteautwinsforums.com there is a picture of the new box set. also, you're getting all the singles and bsides from lullabies all the way to violaine....so if you're missing some singles then this is a must have item. it's only going to cost around 40 bucks.
It WILL (at least) have "Frosty the Snowman" and "Winter Wonderland" which were not included in the original boxed set. Still, unless it's really nicely put together, I can't justify the expense (nor having two copies of everything). Why don't they just release the few pieces of new material from the post-M&K sessions - from the next album that was never to be?
I guess I get a "D" for dork, since I have multiple copies of many songs and albums by bands that I like, for one reason or another.
what can I say, I'm a sucker for alternate versions of cover art, compilations, and re-issues... sometimes.
btw- Frosty and WInter have got to be 2 of the lamest CT songs ever, you can just feel the shame in the music as they play (selling out... ugh)
On another note-
Any massive attack fans familiar with "100th Window"?
It features Sinead as a guest vocalist (not as magical as Liz, but still amazing)
However, Elizabeth Frazer gets a warm thanks in the liner notes... also I heard she was touring with them earlier this year...
I wonder, will she be returning to sing with them on their next album...?
anyone care to SPECULATE?
Oh Good, I lost my Box Set a long time ago, and this will be much easier to carry!
<< Frosty and WInter have got to be 2 of the lamest CT songs ever, you can just feel the shame in the music as they play >>
* I completely disagree, they are wonderful executions of those classic songs! As far as I know, the Cocteau Twins never caved to pressure and always retained their own creative control. Does anyone else here have reason to believe it wasn't their choice to record them or that they were unhappy with the results?
I'm not claiming that they were unhappy with the results,
I just think the songs are lame (IMHO) and that making christmas music is way less creative and interesting than their previous recordings... then again, I don't really like much of the later Twins stuff anyway.
All I'm saying is, when I hear this song playing in a department store at x-mas time it gives me this feeling of shame and embarassment for them...
you don't have to agree with me, it's just my emotional response to the songs.
I actually think it was a brilliant stroke to go from years of totally obscure lyrics to lyrics more well known than any others. I see a lot of humor in the Twins. Their interviews remind me of Andy Warhol's. Giving nothing away, frustrating inquiry, sort of making fun of the seriousness of the critics (and, sometimes, the seriousness of fans).
the US release date for this new box set has been changed to December 6th.
here are some photos of the new box set:

wow, they're a little blurry, but it's better that way...
it'll still be a suprise when mine arrives in the mail!
just kidding.
I think I'll pick one up from amoeba on the sixth,
Amazon won't get them untill february!
poo
try ordering from amazon.co.uk, you'll have it withiin a week.
What does 19.99 translate to in US $$$?
At this point if I have to wait a week, I'd rather just buy it from Amoeba when it comes out next tuesday... unless the european version is much cheaper.
www.powerplaydirect.com/asp/it...ils.asp
that's the cheapest place i've found that sells it so far, the price includes shipping.
$29.98 at Amoeba.
I'm loving it already!
Lullabies has never sounded better, somehow they really improved the production on that one...
i've been going through my copy of L2V with a fine tooth comb, only to discover that it's full of typographical errors. i think that 4ad should be ashamed of themselves for such poor proof-reading.
I'm sure I could find them if I took the time... but name a few examples for us...?
Just brought my copy of L2V and it's great. Outstanding work on the packaging. Nice feel to it.
-m
one example?
on the plastic sleeve it says "ROCOCCO" instead of "ROCOCO"
That's a pretty common misspelling... and it's always hard to tell with the twins, since they often intentionally mispell words.... so I had to check the original Aikea Guinea package to be sure!
How many other typos have you found? (I'm checking now too)
What do you reckon 4AD will do about it, will they re-call or re-issue the L2V set?
Maybe those of us that've already purchased it will get free new re-issues or something!
You should compile a complete list, and send it to 4AD as a complaint, and collect an e-mail petition from other fans...
4ad will do nothing about it. since when did they give a shit about cocteau twins anyway?
i already posted a message on the 4ad forum about this and people seem to think that i'm over-reacting. personally i think it's a disgrace that they keep releasing stuff with errors on it. remember the uk remaster of garlands with "blood bath" on it? this kind of thing just isn't acceptable.
hopefully by the time the two disc sets come out in the new year they will have corrected all the errors.
It just goes to show you that once 4ad used to be a great record label. Now they just put stuff out there to make a buck. Just like the DCD compilation they released a few months ago. Trying to capitalize when they tored again.
:(
For Shame....
I'm still waiting for the reunion tour. In the meantime I am looking for the box set on vinyl. I've asked around, at Bellaunion.com & such & they all say ... that perhaps 200 box sets were produced on vinyl, in total for the entire world, soo basically, goodluck!
Is there any chance that the vinyl boxset will ever be rereleased?
I've decided to buy up the box set on vinyl, buying each album/lp/ep, individually. At the moment I have them all, except for the unnamed album that has Crushed, Oomingmak, Highmonkey Monk, & Dials on it. Thats the only one on vinyl that I don't have! And I'm also looking for the box for the vinyl box set. If anyone can aid me in my endeavor hit me up on here & let me know!
